Breast Reduction (Mammaplasty)
Dr. Joseph Mazza, board certified plastic surgeon, offers breast reduction for women at his Mazza Plastic Surgery center located in Ft. Myers, FL. (For men interested in breast reduction- gynecomastic, click here). Mammaplasty is a plastic/reconstructive surgical procedure that addresses the problems of large size, heaviness and sagging of breasts in women. This “bilateral breast reduction” procedure reduces both breasts in one surgery. Another procedure, unilateral breast reduction surgery, reduces only one breast when the breasts are two different sizes.
Large breasts are problematic for many women – both aesthetically and physically. Women with large breasts often suffer from back, neck and shoulder pain. Also, they find that clothing, especially bras, are hard to fit, often resulting in painful indentations (grooves) on their shoulders from tight bra straps.
IS IT TIME FOR BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
CONSULTATION PROCESS WITH JOSEPH MAZZA, M.D.
If you are tired of the chronic back and neck pain and desire to reduce the size of your breast, it is time to consult with Joseph Mazza, M.D.. Large busted women with the following limitations and self-image issues are good candidates for breast reduction surgery:
- My breasts size interferes with and restricts my participation in exercise and most physical activities.
- I tend to be self-conscious about the large size of my breasts.
- I can’t fit comfortably in clothing, and my bra straps dig
- into my shoulders.
- I would like my breast not to sag.
- I want smaller, perkier and more proportional breasts.
- I don’t want people to stare at my chest.
Women with large, heavy, sagging breasts find relief and a new figure from the surgical removal of the excess breast tissue. As an experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Mazza has helped many women reduce their large breasts size, resulting in a more proportional body size and shape.
BREAST REDUCTION PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY
Since every woman’s body type, breast size and breasts reduction goals are different, Dr. Joseph Mazza consults with each patient to develop an individualized surgical breast reduction plan. A proven, safe technique for breast reduction is making a periareola and inverted T incision around the areola and running the incision underneath the crease of the breasts. This technique allows Dr. Mazza to remove the excess tissue and skillfully reposition (lift) the breast to achieve the desire breast size and contour.
Liposuction is sometimes used and is mistakenly referred to as a “scarless” breast reduction. This isn’t completely true as small incisions are made to insert the liposuction cannula. The liposuction procedure takes less time and the recovery is shorter, but there is no benefit of lifting and shaping as with a traditional breast reduction surgery. Dr. Mazza will discuss your options with you.
Recovery takes some time but typically most patients can return to work within a week. You will experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising during your recovery process. Strenuous activities should be avoided for a minimum of one month.
