Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Dr. Joseph Mazza, board certified plastic surgeon, offers rhinoplasty surgery at his Mazza Plastic Surgery center located in Ft. Myers, FL. Rhinoplasty or “nose job” is one of the most difficult plastic surgery procedures to perform. Dr. Mazza is an experienced plastic/reconstructive surgeon who has the necessary training and experience to perform complex nasal surgery (septoplasty and turbinate reduction). He also performs revision rhinoplasty as many patients are unhappy with their nose job and require revisions to have a more natural looking nose or to correct nasal defects.

IS A NOSE JOB RIGHT FOR ME?
CONSULTATION PROCESS WITH JOSEPH MAZZA, M.D.

The majority of rhinoplastys performed in the United States are for cosmetic reasons. Men and women who are interested in aesthetically changing the shape and/or size of their nose seek out plastic surgeons to discuss options to improve upon the nose they were born with or to fix an injured (broken) nose. Since the nose is a prominent facial feature, Dr. Mazza’s goal is to improve the shape, size and proportion of the nose so the face is more balanced and aesthetically pleasing. During your consultation, Dr. Mazza takes into consideration your facial features, skin type, ethnicity, any breathing difficulties and your desired nose enhancements. It may also be advisable to have a chin augmentation in conjunction with a rhinoplasty to create more facial balance and harmony.

RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY

Rhinoplasty surgery is done in an outpatient surgical center. The exact surgical procedure used is dependent upon the type of nasal correction. However, the majority of procedures involve making incisions so Dr. Mazza can clearly visualize and access the nasal bone and cartilage. The incisions can’t be seen. The amount of bone and cartilage to be removed rearranged or added to requires skill and expertise.

Rhinoplasty can take between one to four hours dependent upon the type of procedure and desired correction. For example, if a patient has a deviated septum (the wall that runs inside the nose, dividing it into sides), a septoplasty is performed to correct the displacement of the nasal septum. In some patients, a septoplasty is performed with a rhinopasty to achieve the desired cosmetic look for the nose.

Dr. Mazza will thoroughly review the surgical process with you and conduct a physical examination.

It’s important to follow Dr. Mazza’s aftercare instructions very carefully after surgery. A small splint is placed on the nose to protect it and help keep the nose stable for at least one week. Surgical packing is sometime used and placed inside the nose during your surgery but can be removed the next morning. Some swelling, puffiness, and minor bruising are a normal part of the recovery process. Cold compresses and pain medication are prescribed to help with any pain and reduce swelling. All nasal dressing, sutures and splints must be removed by Dr. Mazza during your scheduled follow up visit.
